The 3rd MINDANAO BLOGGERS SUMMIT

3rd Mindanao Bloggers Summit

The CDO Bloggers Inc. is inviting all the bloggers of Mindanao and neighboring places to participate the 3rd Mindanao Bloggers Summit which will be held at Pearlmont Inn, Limketkai Drive, Cagayan de Oro City on October 24, 2009 with the theme "Mindanao: Bag-uhon ang Panan-aw."

The 3rd Mindanao Bloggers Summit this year is organized by CDO Bloggers Inc. (a duly SEC-registered organization that promotes Cagayan de Oro through blogging). The previous summits, the 1st and 2nd Mindanao Bloggers Summit was held at Davao and General Santos City respectively.

According to the president of the organizer, Jovelyn "Chiq" Montes, dignitaries like United States Embassy’s new Deputy Chief of Mission Leslie Bassett, Atty. Adel Tamano, Agusan Lone District Rep. Rodolfo “Ompong” Plaza and Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Tinnex Jaraula will grace the summit.

Topics, like blog advertising and making money online, will be discussed by Digital Filipino’s Janette Toral and Lyle Santos respectively. These are the topics I'd like to listen about. I'm sure I'll learn more about the topic and I'm expecting to learn more. Another topic, to be discussed by Google's Philippine representative Aileen Apolo will focus on the beginners like me. :) This is also one of the topics that compels me to participate this event. It's a once in a year event and this is my first time to participate this kind of event.

After the 3rd Mindanao Bloggers Summit, the Philippine Blog Awards will also take place just after the program proper. This is also one of the event I would like to watch because it sounds exciting knowing the winners of different categories. I think most of us, if not all, based our inspirations from blog awardees. Though you may not know them, they innervate you to blog and blog more until bloggers are paying your attention.

Nikon D5000 Recall of Some Units. How’s it now?

October 22, 2009

Nikon D5000Months ago, I’ve been wanting to own a DSLR camera because of this passion to shoot different subjects. By the way, I have owned a Kodak point-and-shoot camera but the lock of the battery compartment was broken and it’s a useless thing now. Comparing the two camera types, DSLR cameras produce high quality photos than Point-and-Shoot cameras. I was searching for this two DSLR camera brands, Nikon and Canon, on the internet and were undoubtedly the top choices pinoy photographers were looking for. But my instinct weighs more on Nikon brands I think because of the result of the colors produced by Nikon DSLRs.

After looking for the latest lines of affordable Nikon DSLRs, I found this D5000 unit as my choice because of its features plus the bonus feature, the Movie mode, which is not available to most entry-level units. The unit is made to be fit and affordable to an entry-level photographer like me.

But my utmost emotion suddenly stops when I came upon this website of PRG Photo Shop, a camera shop in Cebu. What I found is the Service Advisory for Nikon D5000 units. The company has been recalling the Nikon D5000 units because of the following technical issues:

  • The camera cannot be operated when the power switch is on, even with a fully-charged battery.
  • The camera cannot be operated with the EH-5a AC Adapter connected through the EP-5 Power Connector and the power switch on.
  • My longing to own this camera quickly falls and doubts of its reliability started to grow up. I’m still trying to look upon this unit to different camera stores and tried my luck if I still have a chance to look for serial numbers not included in the recalled units. But unfortunately, my luck wasn’t enough to look for it.

Canon EOS 500DTo my dismay, I ended my odyssey and rested my feet. I tried visiting the Canon store and luckily they’ve been releasing this 500D models (the same level as Nikon D5000 models) months ago. Without a doubt, and never heard about a recall of this model, I bought this Canon DSLR camera. I compared the reviews of the two models, and without a single smirch of an ink, the 500D wins. Thanks for the reviews found on the net, I have this dignity to own one of this entry-level DSLR cameras.

By the way, how’s the Nikon D5000 units now?

To determine if your D5000 is affected by this Service Advisory, click the Check Serial Number link below and enter your D5000 serial number where indicated. If the serial number verification determines that your camera requires service, additional easy-to-follow instructions will be provided. Otherwise, no further action is necessary.

    TeamManila’s site attacked by Malwares?

    October 22, 2009

Team Manila design The graphic design on the right is a very patriotic design with the national hero of the Philippines, Jose Rizal with a modern shades and the two letters PH meaning the Philippines. You could see that the TeamManila’s designers are very Filipino.

Anyway, I’ve been noticing, for a long time now, everytime I use Google to search for TeamManila, the search engine is trying to block the TeamManila site because of malwares. Were they being attacked by hackers trying to gather informations from site visitors, customers or habitue? Or Google has been trying to be stricter for security’s sake of their search engine? I tried typing directly the TeamManila site to the address bar of the browser and then opening it. The site opens without any problem at all. I also found nothing about a notice that their site is being attacked.

I’ve been a fan of their designs for a long time. And I want to make sure everytime I visit their sites, nothing is crawling and ingest whatever informations available.

I hope the Design Team can explain this or this is just an overacting of Google technical team’s programming skills.
